June 12 and bye-bye to ScobleScoble's breaking news of leaving Microsoft has taken over techmeme.... I heard about it last night when I ran in to my friend Matt, and the first thing he said was 'did your hear about scoble!'.
my reaction: a sore sore loss for microsoft. I wish him the best, he has done a phenomenal job of humanizing microsoft. I met scoble a year ago, when I emailed him and asked him to spread the news about start.com/3... and he asked if he could interview steve and I and he wrote a nice blog about us too. he played a huge role in turning start.com from something cool that no-one knew about to something cool that a lot of ppl knew about.... start.com was one of the many many products that he had this effect on, the scoble effect.
I've been at microsoft for 2.5 years and I've seen a few folks that I dearly respect leave:
Ken Goto: product unit manager for msn entertainment, ken left the company and joined starbucks
Hadi Partovi: general manager of msn, Hadi left to start his own company
Steve Rider: one of the brightest developers, Steve recently joined hadi's start-up
Scoble: one-man pr machine, joined podtech.net
Hadi and Scoble in particular were amazing at pumping microsoft with new energy... they were effective at infusing a new way of thinking and inspiring ppl along the way. they made the company feel much smaller.
Maryam & Robert wish you both the best and look forward to the great things you'll be doing from the valley... you're both amazing. Comments (8)
